July 1 2015 Port Clinton Fishing Report
Lake Erie’s western basin is loaded with the best numbers and differant year classes of walleye that we have seen in a long time. Making this summers outlook July and August very promising. The Turn Around buoy to the Duck Head – The Tit and between West Sister to Middle Sister. Lots of walleye.
The super two day blow from last weekend muddied the water and has slowed the fishing temporally. It should be back on track in the next several days. There already is good visibility on the wagon wheel about 4 feet has been reported and also in front of Camp Perry.
Keep a extra sharp look out as you navigate there are lots of logs and floating debris from the rivers running high.
Lake Erie’s annual mayfly hatch is winding down and with each passing day less mayflies – hungrier walleye.

Lake Erie’s western basin is loaded with the best numbers and different year classes of walleye that we have seen in a long time. Making this summers outlook very promising. The Turn Around buoy to the Duck Head – The Tit and between West Sister to Middle Sister. Lots of walleye. The super one day blow from a week ago muddied the water and slowed the fishing for a few days. Its back on track now. Trolling and drift fishing limits of walleye have been the norm the last two days. There are lots of fish closer to shore how ever with the rivers in flood a week ago we have lots of suspended clay which takes a long time to settle out. Keep a extra sharp look out as you navigate there are lots of logs and floating debre from the rivers. We have been fishing N NE of West Sister to the Canadian Line just under Middle. Drift fishing casting our standard #4 Deep Cup Hex Pattern Colorado Blade. 3/4 ounce tighten up just before you hit bottom and skim the bottom five feet with your spinner. Working a ten count for me. Bottom bouncers 2 to 4 cranks up with long 3 foot leads. Canadian Waters is producing rock gators 3 to 6 year old walleye 2 to 6 lbs Mill Point – Chickenolle, Winter, Gull and Kelly’s Schoal.
May 30 2015 Lake Erie western basin fishing report, Port Clinton.
It has been a fantastic year thus far walleye fishing on Lake Erie. April and May – Lots of walleye. Some days better than others how ever a steady right thru ! Big medium and small. We are seeing lots of one, two, three and four year old walleye. This summer should be excellent walleye fishing on Lake Erie’s western basin. Western basin walleye are 2 – 3 and 4 year olds which are 16 to 24 inch walleye. What I mean by this is this age of walleye does not migrate to the east as the water warms stacking the odds in favor of excellent walleye fishing this June July and August. We are still working near the outside reef shelves may be a half mile or so north in in the flats 28 to 30 feet of water. Clinton Reef to Mouse has had a good bite the last several days but so has Niagara to Green A, B, and C cans. Follow the outsde shelf break west from Crane Reef to where it bends north on the Michigan shore line – fishing excellent. Just west of the Gravel Pitts. All these areas have been seeing good action. Get on the gravel Pitts rocky strucure and the water is to clean Get out of the clean water and fish in the stained water. We have been drift fishing and today was another very good day. We fished from West of A can to just east of B can. Most of the walleye were on a 10 count 3/4 ounce weight coupled to our standard Gold spinner. Cast slighlly down wind – winding just enough to put a little pressure on the spinner and as the boat started pulling the spinner pretty much stop winding and let the boat drift finish pulling the spinner around the swing. Nice size 3 and 4 year old walleye made up the bulk of our drift fishing catches today. Two to four lbs.
May 30 drift fishing Limit catches of walleye.

Lake Erie Walleye Fishing Report, Port Clinton
We have been fishing the out side reef shelves from A Can to D Can. Stay away or to the outside of the boats. Walleye – ( fish ) are wild creatures and the more noise around them they spookier they are. There has been a lot of trolling going on from A Can to Toledo Intake and The Gravel Pitts. Drift fishing is no differant than trolling in the aspect that if your not catching change up a bit until you hook up! Today was cast straight into the wind with a medium cast lock up the reel right away and hang on. If the wind picked up cast a little longer if it lightened up vise versa. The trick was to get just enough line out to have your lure suspend just above the bottom about 5 feet. They did not want it moving fast at all just hanging there and Hang On! We took limit catches to respectable boxes of walleye Drift fishing Casting our Standard Premium# 4 Deep Cup Colorado Hex Pattern Gold Blade with 3/4 ounce weight. Deep cup blades spin with very little wind and also a folded clevis spins easier than a quick change.

Nice to limit catches of walleye are being taken drift fishing casting weapons. We have been drift fishing the outside shelf break from B – C Niagara D can. Casting near the gravel pits or just west of there and near the Toledo intake also is producing walleye. Our tactic today – casting 1/2 ounce weight, 10 count with a medium retrieve don’t get to the bottom as the white perch are on fire.
Trolling spoons near the Toledo intake, A, B, D , E cans.
Lake Erie Fishing Report May 15 2015
Drift fishing the out side reef shelves A can – Big n Little Pick to Niagara and D can. Casting weapons low and slow working the outside reef shelves. Trolling D can to G can. Lots of walleye – white perch and white bass. Bring extra night crawlers we have been going through a lot more than normal. I believe it is due to the record hatch of white perch from two years ago.
May 8 2015 Walleye Fishing Report
Spinner bite is on. Low and slow even hesitate. #4 Deep Cup Gold Hex Blades. Fishing the outside shelf breaks 26 to 24 feet near the reefs. No bottom bouncers today – Not enough wind.

Jig bite is wrapping up we have about 1 week left of good jig fishing. Usually the Maumee Bay has a couple hours early in the morning hot jig bite for a week or so longer than we get on the western basin reefs.. The Pear- Little Cedar Point- Light House and the bumps between Toledo Light and Turtle Island.
We have been catching walleye on bottom bouncers for over a week. As the water continues to warm walleye will get more agressive and the spinner bite will become easier. Right now its low and slow with a gold spinner blade. The deeper waters between the reefs. L Can A Can infront of Crane Creek 20 to 26 feet is producing walleye. It is time to break out the gold weapons – bottom bouncers and dont forget the night crawlers.

Lake Erie Walleye jig fishing is in full swing!
The next three weeks will be fantastic If we get the weather.
Ice out happened very fast and fishing was good trolling the out side reef shelves A – B – C -Niagara Reef – D can Crank baits husky jerks, rapalas, rip sticks etc. Slow go 1/2 mph to 1 mph. 24 to 30 feet of water. Jig fishing in the shallows K can Cone Toussaint Crib Niagara Turtle Reef Little Cedar Point The Pear and Toledo Light and the bumps By Turtle Island. All have been at times espically in the morning and evening. 10 to 14 feet at day break and work your way deeper as the sun rises. Same on the reef peaks hit them early and late. Fish the edges after sun has been up or when the boats spook them off the top. Hair jigs with stinger hooks tipped with minnows or bare back either will will produce. The heavy wind on Thursday has slowed the fishing down temporaily due to muddy water. There is a lot of floating debree logs etc being reported so be very careful.
We will recommend the best areas to fish during your charter with us. Ohio waters APRIL MAY JUNE JULY Come August the walleye are on the move east so we give you the option to fish Canadian or Ohio waters in August Sept and Oct. At times the walleye bass and perch fishing can be substantially better in Canadian waters. Coe Vanna Charters gives those of you who want to go the extra mile the opportunity.
