June 29 Walleye fishing report Lake Erie’s Western Basin, Port Clinton, OH
Lake Erie had a very good walleye hatch in 2014 – and a near record hatch in 2015 We are handling 90 to 150 of these a day at times with a crew of six. These walleye are prime eaters and are now sizing up filling the coolers. Lake Erie walleye put on their growth spurt starting in mid June July and August after they gorge them selves for several weeks on their super food Mayfly’s – They grow fast. Lake Erie’s Western Basin is loaded with two year old walleye and the feasting has been on -These two year old are now starting to measure up to legal size. With each passing week that many more will be legal. A 14 inch walleye in May will be 16 inches in August. We have a excellent set up for this July, August and Sept. The Lake is absolutely loaded with two old walleye and enough three year old walleye to bring size to the equation. Lake Erie’s western basin is primed for above average walleye fishing this summer and fall and for the many years to come! The two year old walleye are now active inside the out side shelf break 24 feet of water or so any where from Lumas Reef on the Michigan border to the dumping grounds off Toledo Light , Little Cedar Point off Crane Creek all around the western basin reef complex , A Can to Niagara Reef to H can, Clinton Reef. They are every where!
Lake Erie is having a light algae bloom which means these fish are not going any where we are also seeing pinheads baby emerald shiners. Gator food!
The abundance of two year old walleye are being piggy backed with a near record hatch from last year 2015. It is hard to visualize that next year there will be three times as many two year old walleye as this year! What a picture perfect set up for the future walleye fishing in Lake Erie.
Expect BONZI walleye fishing this July August and September on Lake Erie’s Western basin.

June 4 2016.
Walleye fishing was fantastic today in the flats due to a healthy algae bloom staining the water and bringing the walleye off the bottom and
actively feeding. Walleye seek these waters and school up in the blooms. Our fish finders lit up with marks around 22 to 24 feet and the walleye were very friendly. We caught our 42 limit of walleye in several hours. The missing link 16 to 20 inch fish are snapping! We have been looking for these fish! Gold weapons # 4 deep cup Colorado Blade , Hex Pattern 3/4 ounce 8 to 10 count medium cast slow retrieve half to three quarter way around the turn and slam- Hooked Up !

Last years almost record hatch of walleye nearly rivaling the all time record hatch of 2003 on the heels of this years two year olds Lake Erie’s walleye catches should be well above average starting this summer and for years to come.
Lake Erie walleye fishing report western basin, Port Clinton. June 4 2016
Drift fishing casting weapons Walleye fishing picked up today with several areas getting a healthy algae bloom. We have been waiting on the stained water to get them off the bottom active and schooling up. The walleye were friendly as the fish appeared all over the fish finder. Gold weapons 3/4 ounce 5 to 10 count medium retrieve.
We are steadily handling 100 plus walleye a day casting spinners with a crew of six – these walleye will make the grade in July. I like this summers set up July and August will bring prime walleye fishing to Lake Erie’s western basin. Setting us up for a strong fall bite!
Lake Erie Fishing Report May 22 2016
Walleye fishing has been spotty due to the continuing predominant north – north east winds which means colder than average temperatures air and water. Trolling crank baits and spoons has been catching better over all than the drift fishing. How ever it has not been stellar by any means. Big fish are coming on crank baits and keeps a lot of the smaller walleye off too. Recently the shore line waters from K can to L Can – Crane Creek to the Pear near the Toledo water intake has a healthy algae bloom which helps warm the which attracts walleye. Its brownish brackish look appears to be muddy at first glance stop and check it out if you can see a foot and a half its perfect. I stop put a lure in the water and check the visibility. Small fish have recently become very active in these waters. Limits are starting to be caught more frequent. There also is a fair number of 24 to 30 inch walleye in these areas also. Some trollers are setting on side with crank baits for bigger fish and the other with spoons for action catching 10 walleye 12 to 16 inch and keeping 1 or 2. The walleye are growing so fast a lot of two year old are legal at 15 inches and some according to ODNR are 16 inches already. Its good to see there are lots of them combined with a near record hatch from last year Lake Erie’s walleye population is the best it has been in years. Our bread and butter walleye 16 to 20 inch – western basin gold are scattered in the deeper waters near the out side shelf break. The out side shelf break is holding lots of walleye from E can to the Gravel Pitts. A few more warm days and it will be on! We are just starting to see them come off the bottom when the weather is right sunning them selves as soon as the clouds or winds pick up back to the mud they go and are pretty much untouchable. The next week with warmer temperatures will bring these fish off the bottom and get them snapping – the western basin walleye catching will pick up substantially.
The plus of the cooler waters for this time of year with the walleye bite just turning on June through August should be very good on Lake Erie’s western basin and hope fully set us up for some solid fall fishing in Sept and Oct.
Lake Erie Fishing Report May 11 2016
Lots of big walleye remain in the western basin of Lake Erie due to the cooler water. Spinner bite is starting and will get better as the water warms. Trolling crankbaits and spoons are also taking walleye. Near and over the reefs and fishing the outside shelf edge.
Lake Erie Walleye Fishing Report May 2, 2016
The main walleye spawn is over and we are now in the change over period. Changing over from bottom fishing with jigs to spinner fishing suspended walleye. Trollers will be changing over from stick baits to spoons. Todays catch was half bottom bouncers and half jigs. We had lots of leaned over rods and no hook up. These are cold sluggish walleye hitting but not aggressive enough to get hooked up good. Walleye are cold blooded so until the water warms a few more degrees sluggish fish will be the normal. How ever with all the different age classes of walleye we are catching from 15, 17, 19, 24,27 inch and up we are anticipating a very good season spinner fishing on the western basin. All Lake Erie needs is a week or so of descent warm weather with southerly winds. With that being said the plus of the colder weather in April is our bite in the western basin will hold longer most likely into if not through August.
April 25 2016 Walleye Fishing Report Lake Erie Western Basin
Jig fishing is winding down how ever walleye fishing remains good. Fishing the reefs and shore line Toussiant Reef, Locust Point, Turtle, L Can K Can to Crane Creek near Wild Wings Marina. Anchor Point Marina areas The Pear to Little Cedar Point, Toledo Light The Needle, The Humps between Toledo Light and Turtle Island and the Rock Piles on the Michigan and Ohio Border just North of Toledo Light about 1 mile continue producing nice catches of walleye rod in hand jig fishing. The jig bite is not a burn anymore as the spawn is winding down however the water temperature is now on the cold side for this time of year. Surface temp L Can area showed 50 degrees and 55 is when I like to start spinner fishing. We cant complain with dominate east to north east winds pretty much all month fishing has been good. At least the winds for the most part have been on the mild side not devastating the water and the fishing.
Trolling stick baits 1 to 1 1/2 mph D Can to Niagara Cone Reef to B Can and L Can to A Can trolling the outside shelf break. Is producing limit catches of females most of which are spawned out. I have been marking very good 22 to 24 foot suspended walleye while fishing Big Pickerel Reef and L Can area. With the numbers of walleye marking suspended along with the fish we have been catching when the water warms up a fer more degrees the spinner bite should be very good!
Lots of walleye ranging from 15 inches to 24 inches are in the western basin and are western basin walleye meaning these walleye are going any where any time soon. The larger females will be moving east as the water warms a little more how ever the cool water temperature I suspect will keep them around another couple to three weeks around the western basin reef complex.
April 21 2016 Walleye Jig Bite is good – Wild Wings Marina, Port Clinton, OH
With the return of fair winds and weather the walleye returned to spawning. Catches have been descent for predominate mild east winds and the near future looks like more of the same shifting from the east to the south and back to north on Monday. I will take it yes southerly winds are preferred how ever mild east winds are fishable and the catches have been descent jig fishing and trolling. Lots of walleye big, average and small. Good news for the next 10 years Lake Erie has been blessed with a huge hatch from last year that should carry the lakes walleye population for many years to come if managed properly. Look for good fishing through this weekend. Jig fishing L Can K Can A Can Maumee Bay the near shore reefs for the jig fisherman and the Trophy trolling bite should be happening along the outside shelf break from D Can to Niagara Reef – Cone to B and A Cans. Slow trolling with off shore planners and stick baits.
April 17 Walleye Fishing Report Port Clinton Oh , Lake Erie Western Basin.
Jig fishing and trolling for trophy walleye has been slow due to cold weather and predominate east winds. How ever with the fair weather in control the walleye started waking up today.
This week should bring prime walleye fishing with warm weather and mild winds in the forecast.
The Jig Bite started firing up today on and near the near shore reefs. 12 to 16 feet. It was a two hour out the gate bite on the western basin reef complex. If your crew caught on right away and you were in the right spot you fared well. The western basin reef complex jig bite after such a predominate east wind and cold weather will take a little longer to get re established than the Maumee Bay.
The best jig bite was in the Maumee Bay as they are assisted with warm river water entering the lake which attracts spawning walleye and you also get a shot at walleye returning from spawning in the river. Some limited out early while others took all day however most anglers fishing between Turtle Island and Toledo Light faired well. The waters are cleaning up fast now and soon the Pear, Little Cedar Point and in front of Crane Creek State Park will be fishable. L and A Can are on the soon to happen list.
Slow trolling crank baits from Niagara Reef to D Can and Cone Reef to A Can produced limit catches for some today.
April 16 2016 Western Basin Lake Erie walleye report
Fishing has been slow due to predominate east winds and cold weather. The planets are aligned for good fishing this week with light winds and warmer temperatures in place for the upcoming week. Catches today ranged from 10 to 24 walleye per boat jig fishing near the reefs in16 to 18 feet of water. Look for the shallow water shoreline bite to heat up in another day or so.
April 1 2016 Walleye fishing report Port Clinton, OH

March 7 2016 Lake Erie Spring Walleye Update, Port Clinton,OH
The mild winter continues this should push the walleye spawn ahead a couple weeks. There is still ice flow on the western basin of Lake Erie but no safe ice for ice fishing. Undoubtedly there are hard core trophy walleye fisherman launching boats when the weather permits. Keep a hawk eye out so you do not get pinned in a ice flow. Also travel slow as the blue ice is transparent in the water and is very hard to see. It will damage your boat. The walleye should be staged from the Islands Green – Rattle snake area and all along the out side shelf break. My favorite starting points are Niagara Reef working 30 feet and up, Cone reef the same depths and A can. The older females 6 lbs and up will drop their eggs most likely starting Mid March with the main spawn going strong by the first of April.
Spring jig fishing is just around the corner!Starting April 1. Slow trolling or rod in hand jig fishing.

Lake Erie Fishing Report Feb 21 2016
Expect earlier than normal spring walleye action on Lake Erie this spring. Warmer winters usually advance the annual spawning walleye run on Lake Erie’s western basin reef complex by a couple of weeks. April jig fishing is the only time of year that the walleye come to us. Driven by their natural instincts to spawn they will relentlessly pursue the reefs and they will not wander far. We take full advantage of this exceptional opportunity to catch trophy walleye and have spring specials for trophy walleye fishing.

Feb 17 2016 Lake Erie Fishing Report
Ice fishing is not happening on Lake Erie except from a boat. Fisherman are launching small boats or attempting to launch them from Catawba Island state park when the weather permits and the ice flow is blown off shore. A southerly wind is a must and constant monitoring of the ice flow moving around is crucial as you do not want to get trapped in the lake from ice .
Expect earlier than normal spring walleye action on Lake Erie this spring. Warmer winters usually advance the annual spawning walleye run on the western basin reef complex in Lake Erie. This early fishing is the only time of year that the walleye come to us. Driven by their natural instincts to spawn ( much like a buck in rut ) they will not wander far from the reefs. We take full advantage of this exceptional opportunity to catch trophy walleye and we offer spring specials for trophy walleye fishing. Starting April 1 this year. Slow trolling or rod in hand jig fishing. Spring jig fishing for walleye is just around the corner.
