Lake Erie has the finest smallmouth bass fishing and arguably the best smallmouth bass fishing in the United States can be found in Lake Erie’s Western Basin near Port Clinton, Ohio. Smallmouth Bass are found along the entire shoreline of Lake Erie-with hot spots along rocky structure and drop-offs in 15-35 feet of water. Average smallmouth bass caught on Lake Erie range between 2 and 4 pounds. There is always a hefty 5 or 6-pound trophy smallmouth bass to be caught. We handle 30 to 90 smallmouth bass per day on the average.
The Ohio State record smallmouth was caught in Lake Erie, with the current record standing at an impressive 8 pounds, 4 ounces.
